JAMESTOWN – Nearly 55 percent of people 18 and up in Chautauqua County are now vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to New York State’s COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker, more than 56,900 residents have received at least one dose of the shot as of Wednesday.
This as the nation reached what health officials are calling a ‘milestone’ on Tuesday, with half of adults now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The announcement comes as states brace for a busy Memorial Day Weekend. New York is re-opening beaches and taking its mobile vaccination effort to the roads to encourage those soaking up the sun to get a shot.
Meanwhile, a second vaccine-maker announces its COVID-19 vaccines are safe for adolescents.
Moderna joining Pfizer in saying testing reveals their vaccine is safe and appears to be effective for children ages 12 to 17.
Modera says it plans to submit its results to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June, and hopes to get emergency use authorization.
