MAYVILLE – The COVID-19 pandemic seems to be subdued in Chautauqua County after local health leaders reported the lowest Coronavirus activity since nearly one year ago.

The Chautauqua County Health Department says as of Friday, there are 88 people under isolation orders, 70 in quarantine, and only 18 active cases of the virus.

Last month, 308 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, the lowest since September 2020.

“The decline in cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations is something to celebrate and a testament to all who have gotten vaccinated and stayed strong and smart over the last 15 months,” said County Public Health Director Christine Schuyler in a statement. “This is an encouraging trend which should continue with more and more people getting vaccinated.”

According to Schuyler, 48 percent of those 12 and up have received at least one dose of the shot, with more than 72 percent of those over 65, the most vulnerable population, imunized.

Schuyler feels that County vaccination rates could be higher than what is currently known because only the vaccinations given in New York State are in the state’s electronic system.

“Because of our proximity to Pennsylvania and the large number of people who travel south for the winter, we know that a lot of folks have been vaccinated outside of NYS,” said Schuyler. “These vaccination records are not shared between states, nor are the records of vaccinations given through the VA health care system. Entering the vaccination information into the state’s system enables NYS residents to get an Excelsior Pass and also helps us better gauge our vaccination rate.”

If you are a Chautauqua County resident and were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in a state other than New York or by the federal VA health care system, she is asking you to provide your vaccination information to your primary care provider for upload into the New York State Immunization Information System.

Schuyler says if your primary care provider is not in New York State or is part of the federal VA system, then provide the info to the Chautauqua County Health Department directly.

Residents can call 1-866-604-6789 and leave a message, or e-mail CCHEALTH@chqgov.com.  In your e-mail, please include a picture of your vaccination card, along with your address, phone number, and mother’s maiden name.
