RANDOLPH – The portion of Interstate-86 that crosses Schoolhouse Road in Randolph will be renamed the “Sergeant David Lockwood Memorial Bridge.”

Sergeant Lockwood was born in Salamanca, graduated from Randolph Central School and attended Jamestown Community College before serving in Vietnam as a part of the U.S. Army.

Lockwood is highly recognized, having received the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Star Medals, three Silver Star medals, and the Expert Rifle (M-14) Badge.

“Sergeant Lockwood was a decorated war hero who served his country with distinction. Dedicating this bridge in his honor is a fitting tribute,” said Senator George Borrello, who helped sponsor the legislation along with Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio. “While attending Jamestown Community College, Sergeant Lockwood worked as a carpenter’s assistant and actually had a role in building the bridge which will bear his name.”

After serving, Lockwood graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology and was an engineer until his passing in 2018.

The final step before the bridge can officially be renamed is to acquire a signature from Governor Andrew Cuomo approving the move.

Borrello said that he is asking Cuomo “to sign the bill marking this designation as soon as possible.”
