JAMESTOWN – Voters statewide are casting their final ballots in party primaries today, including several top races in Chautauqua County.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m., with locations varying from district to district. VoteChautauqua.com is the best place to check if you are eligible to cast a ballot.

Some elections to take note of include Chautauqua County Legislator District 4 where Democrats Susan Parker and Christine Starks are going head-to-head.

Another top county race is between Republicans Martin Proctor and Bill Ward who are vying for the Chautauqua County Legislature District 18 ticket.

At the town level, Republicans Russell Payne and Laura Smith are facing off for the Carroll Town Supervisor ticket. Payne previously defeated Smith in the 2019 election.

With no presidential or congressional races at stake, turnout is expected to be a fraction of what the state saw last November.

Yet even with fewer votes to count, results in some races could take time to emerge.

of an aqua blue insulator on an old telephone pole and it tends to make me smile.
