JAMESTOWN – Construction work on Jamestown’s newest skatepark is taking a big step forward.

Jamestown’s City Council approved up to $480,000 in additional funding for the Riverwalk Community Skatepark this week. The money is part of an Urban Development Action Grant.

Local leaders were originally planning to only build two-thirds of the project due to increased construction costs, but now with the additional money will likely complete the entire build this summer.

The site, located at 117 Fairmount Ave., will incorporate some of the area’s manufacturing history.

Additional funding was covered from grants via the SkatePark Project and Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.

The park is slated to be open by the end of summer.
