SILVER CREEK – A flood warning was issued for several communities in northern Chautauqua County Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo says at around 7:15 a.m. doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms passing through the areas of Dunkirk, Fredonia, Gowanda, Silver Creek and Angola.

Flooding occurred in those areas due to heavy rain that occurred overnight into early this morning. Meteorologists say so far between one and three inches of rain have fallen.

If drivers encounter a flooded roadway, officials say turn around, don’t drown.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings, which officials further are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. They say do not attempt to cross flooded roads, but rather find an alternate route.
