MAYVILLE – A 65-year-old male incarcerated at the Chautauqua County Jail died on Monday.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reports the man, who has not been identified, began having chest pains and difficulty breathing.

Correction officers, deputies say, took appropriate action and contacted Emergency Medical Services who responded to the jail.

The 65-year-old was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital. Upon arrival at the emergency room, deputies say he was unresponsive and medical staff were unable to revive him.

Due to new New York State laws, the Attorney General’s Office was notified and sent a Detective to the jail to further investigate.

New York State Commission of Corrections has also been notified and will also conduct an investigation.
