DUNKIRK – Infrastructure stimulus funding will be used to help prevent future water outages in Dunkirk, this after a massive water main broke in the city last month.

The city’s Common Council Finance Committee authorized the fund’s use, which will pay to create an isolation system along the water line to prevent future breaks.

Specifically, the line would be in place to isolate and avoid draining the city’s water system, like what happened back on August 31 when a 120-year-old waterline under Route 5 ruptured.

The break caused a water emergency in the northern Chautauqua County municipality, with parts of the city without water and a boil water order in place for several days.
