JAMESTOWN – A longtime holiday tradition in Jamestown will return to the stage this weekend.
The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet’s The Nutcracker performance will take place at the Reg Lenna Center For The Arts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
This is the first time the group has been able to host the show since the pandemic shut down theater productions last year.
Taking the spotlight is guest artist Spencer Keith to perform the role of Cavalier and Maya Swanson as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Additionally, dancer Annie Johnson will play Clara and Telly Ortiz will partner as her prince.
Elizabeth Bush Executive Director says the performance is perfect for the whole family.
“It starts out with a Victorian Party scene, from there it goes into a midnight battle, which kids love, there’s mice and soldiers which come to life, the Rat King, the Nutcracker Prince,” explained Bush. “After that they all get transported to a beautiful snow scene where it snows on stage, then Act II is where a lot of the actual ballet dancing comes in.”
The show is under the direction of Artistic Director Monkia Alch and sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, New York State Council on the Arts, and M&T Bank.
Tickets can be purchased online at reglenna.com.
