Waves Overtake Lake Erie Breakwall In Dunkirk Amid Storm

DUNKIRK – Waves overtook the Lake Erie breakwall in Dunkirk on Saturday afternoon as heavy winds pounded the region. 

WNY News Now Storm Chaser Mitch Bellinger captured video of the intense waves along Lake Front Boulevard. 











Bellinger’s weather station recorded wind gusts up to 55 m.p.h. at times. 

City of Dunkirk Police have since closed the roadway due to the storm’s impacts.  

A High Wind Warning and Lakeshore Flood Warning is in place for the area through late Saturday night. 









Winds gusting up to 70 m.p.h. are expected to cause flooding along Lake Erie. 

Officials expect the damaging winds will also likely blow down numerous trees and power lines; some property damage is also likely.
