JAMESTOWN – Over 1,800 new COVID-19 infections were reported in Chautauqua County last week.

The Health Department announced the news in an update to the county’s COVID-19 Dashboard on Wednesday.

Of those cases 1,384 remain active, an increase of 497, with 28 people hospitalized due to the illness.

Officials now say half of those admitted to local hospital facilities are not vaccinated.

Additionally, three new COVID-19 deaths were reported bringing the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 286.

According to the CDC, the community level of transmission remains high. Local health leaders say the number of new cases appear to be linked to the Omicron variant.
