Number Of Active COVID Infections Sees Sharp Decrease In Chautauqua County

JAMESTOWN – The number of active COVID-19 infections in Chautauqua County made a sharp decrease last week.

In the County Health Department’s latest update officials reported 339 active infections as of Wednesday. That number is down from 1,384 last week at this time.


However, over 1,700 new cases and four new virus-related deaths were recorded during the last seven-days with 31 people hospitalized with COVID-19.

Of those seeking hospital care, officials say 52 percent are not vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the latest vaccination numbers from New York State, over 78,900 Chautauqua County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine making up about 60 percent of the county’s total population.
