WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. marching in support of the pro-life movement. These anti-abortion protesters hope this year, the Supreme Court will finally overturn the Roe v. Wade decision.

On a cold Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C. thousands of people from across the U.S. gathered for the March for Life event.

“This is not to condemn or criticize,” said Elizabeth Miller who is pro-life. “It’s to open arms and say you’re loved.”

“Everyone here is so excited to stand up for life and I’m so excited to be here and I’ve been wanting to do this for years,” said Jolie Lloyd who is pro-life.

“Everyone getting off the metro here seems to be all pumped up,” added Jane Bullington who is pro-life.

Some of these anti-abortion supporters passed out flyers, held up signs and listened to speeches from members of congress to religious leaders. This March usually happens around the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalizes abortion nationwide. But this year, supporters are hopeful the highest court will reverse that decision.

“I would love for Roe v. Wade to be overturned because these children deserve to have a choice over their life,” said pro-life supporter Jessi Wenger.

Less than two months ago the Supreme Court took up a Mississippi case that would put a ban on abortions after 15 weeks and depending on that decision, it could essentially weaken Roe or overturn it altogether. When we spoke with pro-choice supporters, they said keeping Roe is vital for women’s health and their right to choose what to do with their bodies.

“The only way we can have our constitutional right to an abortion and have our religious freedom intact is if every single person in this country can make their won health and moral decisions,” Sheila Katz who is pro-choice told us back in December 2021.

According to Guttmacher Institute, if Roe is overturned, 26 states are certain or likely to ban abortion. At the rally in D.C. they’re hopeful this year will be the year that happens.

“We’re really supporting that there really is a choice other than abortion,” said Hannah Bates who is pro-life.

The Supreme Court is likely to make that decision on the Mississippi case in the summer of 2022.
