MAYVILLE – A Falconer man will stand trial next month on charges that include rape.
A Chautauqua County Court Clerk tells WNY News Now that Devon Smith’s trial will begin with jury selection on March 17. Smith is charged with rape in the first and second degrees, along with charges of sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office alleges Smith forced sexual intercourse and other sexual contact with a 14-year-old in December 2020. No other details of the investigation were revealed.
Smith remains in county jail on bail.
The case was investigated by Ellicott Police Department officer Daniel Leighton and other members of the department. Smith is being represented by the public defender’s office.
