ERIE, Pa. (Erie News Now) – Penn State Behrend officials are highlighting their research into plastics, showing local leaders and elected officials the results of their work so far.

It’s part of “Project Resolve,” an initiative that works to reduce the environmental effects of plastics.

Researchers at Behrend study the life cycle of plastics and their long-term environmental problems, then look into ways to make better, less-harmful plastics.

It’s especially important work in a city like ours, because plastics are a huge concern for aquatic life, like the birds, fish and mammals of Lake Erie.

The university invited representatives of local, state and federal legislators, hoping to draw attention to their work and perhaps get more grant money to study the situation.
