ERIE, Pa. (Erie News Now) – Uber drivers in our area were busy on St. Patrick’s Day.
“It’s going to be sporadic and continuous,” Driver Ron Thornton told Erie News Now Thursday Night.
“I always have the most luck from 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon on, so I always wait until the evening to come out. We’re excited. We prepare for it,” said Thornton.
One reason he and other Uber drivers are excited, profits are up. Uber introduced an extra fee to riders earlier this week to help their drivers pay for gas. People using Uber are noticing the increase. “It was like $9-$10 before, and now it’s $13-$15,” one rider said.
Despite the rising cost of a ride, people are still using the service.
“What’s nice about it is, that us drivers like, is because it’s an all-day, all-night thing, you see different people getting out at different times, but they’re all going to do the same thing,” said Thornton.
In the two short hours we rode along with Ron, he raked in more than $100 getting passengers around town.
“They’d rather pay you the extra money to pick them up, versus getting a DUI,” said Thornton.
Overall, it’s a good call for people celebrating St. Patrick’s Day to make. “People can go out and enjoy their holiday knowing that not only are we making a profit, but we’re getting people home to their families safe.”
