ERIE, Pa. (Erie News Now) – Risking your life on the job is a serious commitment some professions face, but education majors were not expecting to have this concern.

Education is one of the most popular fields to major in, but in light of the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, many students are thinking twice about their chosen career path.

College students are concerned about both their safety and how they would protect their future classroom.

“My passion is being with the kids but it has posed the question about if it’s the safest,” said Mercyhurst University student Shelby Porter. “I’ve had family members come up to me and ask me not to major in Education because they want to see me come home.”
