ELLERY – A man drowned on Saturday afternoon after falling into Chautauqua Lake.

The County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Chautauqua Lake in the area of Martha’s Vineyard in the Town of Ellery.

The Fluvanna Fire Department, along with the County Dive Team, Chautauqua County EMS and Sheriffs Deputies responded to the scene.

The individual, deputies report, was located in the water, unresponsive.

He was treated at the scene before being transported to UPMC Chautauqua where he was later pronounced dead.

The victims name is being withheld at this time, and deputies said the investigation is continuing.

More information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
