KENNEDY – A 28-year-old Randolph man is facing felony arson charges after police alleged he initially sparked a massive fire that destroyed two homes in Kennedy.

New York State Police reported the arrest of Aubrey Baize on Thursday.

Investigators said witnesses spotted Baize entering the house at 672 Second Street before the fire started on Wednesday morning.

Onlookers reported hearing several explosions just before flames broke out. Crews battled intense heat while attempting to get the fire under control.

The house where the fire originated quickly burned to the ground, with a neighboring structure also catching fire. That house has since been demolished due to damage it sustained.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Chautauqua County Fire Investigators Team worked together to make the arrest.

Baize has since been charged with third degree felony arson and is being held at the Chautauqua County Jail.
