JAVA – An EF2 touched down in the town of Java in Wyoming County on Thursday morning.
Storm damage survey teams from the National Weather Service in Buffalo found EF2 tornado damage in portions of Wyoming County in Western New York Thursday afternoon.
According to the NWS, the tornado first touched down around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, south of the intersection of New York State Route 78 and Chaffee Road in the Town of Java.The tornado continued to travel north-northeast for 10 miles and eventually lifted near the Village of Gainesville. The tornado was on the ground for a total of 15 minutes, with a path width of 200 yards.
The winds were estimated to be around 115 MPH, doing significant damage to a barn, with one portion of that barn displaced 20 to 30 yards. Numerous trees and power lines were also knocked down along the tornado path.
There were no injuries or fatalities reported.
