MAYVILLE – A new legislator has been appointed to serve parts of Jamestown, Lakewood and Busti.

Jamie Gustafson was confirmed by the Chautauqua County Legislature on Wednesday night, representing the southwest side of Jamestown, Village of Lakewood and a portion of Busti.

She replaces Ken Lawton, who is moving out of the district.

The new District 10 representative has lived in the area for the past 30-years, currently working at M&T Bank.

Gustafson spoke with our crew following her confirmation, saying the biggest hurdles the county faces include health of Chautauqua Lake, tourism and battling the county’s population loss.

“I know at M&T bank, we just created “Seneca One” it’s a hub for technology, and the idea is to bring technology students, or people of that profession, to the area, so we can employ them out into the community, to do the work,” explained Gustafson.

The Republican will have to run for election this November, as part of a bid to retain the seat.
