
PORTVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – A 20-year-old Genesee, New York man has been charged in connection with a crash in Cattaraugus County that killed a 19-year-old and injured two others.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup truck, operated by Skyler Hess, struck a Jeep parked alongside the road on Route 417 in the Town of Portville just before 1:30 a.m. last Saturday.
The Jeep, deputies said, was propelled forward across a lawn where it hit a the 19-year-old, fatally injuring him. Hess’s truck then continued, and hit a parked sedan before moving across the lawn.
The vehicle also hit a 16-year-old female and 18-year-old female. The 18-year-old remains at ECMC with critical injuries, with the 16-year-old released from at Oishei Children’s Hospital. She is recovering at home.
Hess is charged with vehicular manslaughter and two counts of vehicular assault.
Following the crash, deputies said Hess was arraigned and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail. He has since made bail and was released on Tuesday.
Additional charges, deputies report, are pending in the case as well.
