Kayaker Hospitalized After Overturning His Craft On Chautauqua Lake

ELLERY, NY (WNY News Now) – A 73-year-old kayaker from Ohio was taken to a regional hospital after overturning his craft on Chautauqua Lake.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reports Paul Maxim, of Pataskala, Ohio, overturned his kayak around 3:20 p.m. on Monday.

Maxim was found unconscious when first responders arrived on scene. Sheriff Deputies immediately began CPR.











Chautauqua County EMS and the Maple Springs Fire Department arrived shortly after and provided further care.

Maxim was transported to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown for treatment and was later transferred to UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pa.
