KENNEDY, NY (WNY News Now) – A Kennedy man is accused of assaulting a juvenile resulting in injury and prompting the youngster to run away from home.

Back on September 22, New York State Police responded to Falconer Central School for a report of a runaway juvenile.

An investigation revealed that a few days prior, the student was allegedly confronted by 49-year-old Joel Lanphere as part of a dispute over a cell phone in the youth’s possession.

Lanphere is accused of striking the juvenile “several times” resulting in chronic headaches the following days.

Police said Lanphere also allegedly destroyed a Dell Chrome Book issued to the victim by the school.

Lanphere was placed under arrest at his residence and charged with criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
