CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports a high demand has created a national shortage of amoxicillin.
Michael Steed, the Co-Owner and Pharmacist at Gerould’s in Corning, talked about ways to get the right medicine, even if it’s not amoxicillin.
“On the amoxicillin side, it does seem like it’s affecting the liquid version of it rather than the capsule or tablet. You see what you do have on-hand to see if there’s a solution, (with the approval of the doctor),” said Steed.
Steed said that whole-salers typically give a tentative release date which is updated daily so said he has a good idea of when things come in-stock.
“What we do know is it seems like it has been something that has been hit or miss but it is hard to get. Fortunately enough, there are enough resources we can use to find it and in a town like Corning, we’re able to find other places that have it if we don’t,” said Steed.
