CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Newsource) — Authorities are investigating a shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia that left multiple people dead and injured.

It’s believed the shooter was an employee, or former employee, who walked into a break room and opened fire on other employees. Police say the shooter then turned the gun on himself and is deceased.

Officers responded to the scene just after 10 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say at least six people were killed.

Police were still looking for more potential victims into the early morning hours Wednesday.

It’s not believed any law enforcement officers fired shots during the response.

The ATF’s Washington field division mobilized to Virginia to provide assistance.

Walmart released a statement saying, “we are shocked at this tragic event.”

The statement went on to say, “we’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates.”
