JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – In what is hailed by some as the unofficial kickoff to Christmas, an annual event to ship a “piece of home for the holidays” to those serving in the U.S. Military overseas is taking place this weekend near Jamestown.
Our local Blue Star Mothers chapter is getting ready for their annual Military Christmas Care Package Drive at the Fluvanna Community Church on Saturday.
Over the past several years all walks of life have contributed to this event, with those as young as five-years-old to 100-years-old packing a box.
However, before the packaging assembly line takes shape, the group is seeking donations. From packages of beef jerky, canned goods like chicken noodle soup, to healthcare items like baby power, the group of local military mothers need donations.
On Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Fluvanna Community Church, anyone in the community is invited to stop by and donate supplies, or even, handwritten cards and notes to the troops.
A full list of what is needed is posted on the Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie NY 4 Facebook page.
