
LAKEWOOD, NY (WNY News Now) — A 32-year-old homeless man faces a slew of charges after allegedly leading police on a stolen vehicle pursuit following a shoplifting incident at the Lakewood Walmart.
On Saturday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., officers with Lakewood-Busti Police responded to the Fairmount Avenue superstore for a reported larceny in progress.
When patrol arrived, they spotted Jonathan King allegedly fleeing the scene. A pursuit then ensued.
King is accused of fleeing down Southwestern Drive into the Town of Busti and eventually attempting to drive through a lawn, where his vehicle became stuck. He then allegedly fled on foot through several yards and was later taken into custody.
The vehicle, police said, was reported stolen out of the City of Jamestown.
King faces several charges including unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny; among other traffic violations.
Officers said King is expected to appear in Town of Busti Court at a later date to face the criminal charges.
