MAYVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – An investigation continues to determine what sparked a residential fire in Chautauqua County on Wednesday.

Just before 2 p.m. several area fire departments responded to 6441 Hartfield-Centralia Road for a reported structure fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they were met by heavy smoke.

While the home’s residents were able to escape without injury, firefighters spent some time searching the home for the fire’s source in an attempt to extinguish flames.

They used a ladder truck from the Westfield Fire Department to gain access to the structure’s second floor.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Team has since been called to the scene and are working to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
