MAYVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) — Community members braved the frigid cold on Saturday as the polar plunge returned to the Mayville Winter Festival for the 8th year.

Dozens of people, both in teams and individually, took on the challenge of wading into the icy waters of Chautauqua Lake, with proceeds from the event benefiting the St. Susan’s Center in Jamestown.

The wind didn’t deter spectators from the event, which was held as a part of the Presidents Day Winter Festival at Lakeside Park in the village.

The St. Susan’s Center’s mission is to build up the community and help feed the hungry in Chautauqua County by offering free meals and fellowship to those in need. The organization has carried out this goal for over 30 years.

The total amount of money raised is expected to be announced later in the week.
