MAYVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – Members of the County Legislature are voicing their support for a new hospital in northern Chautauqua County.

Last year, administrators with Brooks Memorial Hospital announced plans to relocate the medical facility from the City of Dunkirk to a new site on East Main Street in Fredonia.

With development plans continuing, on Wednesday the County Legislature urged New York State to release $70 million that has been set aside for the new facility.

The push to protect healthcare in Chautauqua County, stretches even beyond the borders of Dunkirk.

“Members agree unanimously to proceed with the proposed new hospital building, and the adjoining medical complex, as something that we need, something that’s viable if we get the funding from the state, and we want to remind people that Governor Hochul said in January that this new hospital is very important to the health team, health and wellbeing of northern Chautauqua County,” explained Jamestown Legislator Elizabeth Rankin. As a rural hospital, it’s important, it’s a job creator and everybody needs a place to go when you’re sick.”

Brooks-TLC’s Chairman previously said the new site, being near several major thoroughfares, would provide greater access to healthcare for all of northern Chautauqua County.
