ELLICOTT, NY (WNY News Now) — A local cheer team is gearing up to travel across the country for a competition in just a couple months.
After traveling to Florida last year and placing in the top ten in their division, Samantha Robinson, owner and head coach of Xplosion All-Stars, is heading back to the sunshine state for an even bigger competition.
“This is actually the biggest competition that they could ever attend. And you have to get a ticket or a bid to attend it, and both of those teams this year actually leveled up and got the bid so they will be going to the ESPN Center and Disney in May,” boasts Robinson.
The two teams will be competing in the D2 Summit at the Varsity Cheer Competition in Disney World, with a total of fifteen athletes ages eight to eighteen traveling. In the meantime, the groups are hard at work practicing.
“They do two day practices for two and a half hours, we do extra practices. Right now, they’re attending some local competitions that allow them to kinda get prepared for that big competition. A lot of training,” says Robinson.
Athletes will need to adjust their performance for a larger stage, as well as prepare for the lights, cameras, and being on TV. Xplosion’s teams is the only group from Chautauqua County heading to the happiest place on earth.
“We’re always looking for sponsors from the community. Our girls are always interested in seeing their name saying good luck to Xplosion All-Stars because like I said, we are representing Jamestown and we are the only team in the area to do that so anything that people want to do to help us. Send the money for different things, the travel expenses, their admission, any of that stuff would be great,” says Robinson.
On April 28, the cheer squad will host a team bonding event and performance for the Jamestown Jackals followed by a send off prior to the competition on Tuesday, May 2.
Xplosion All-Stars has both competition teams and classes for athletes aged three to eighteen.
