New York Man Arrested after Leading Police on Pursuit for about 60 Miles

Pennsylvania State Police arrested a New York man after bringing an end to a nearly 60-mile pursuit in North East Township earlier this month.

It started when New York State Police notified troopers March 8 around 7:16 p.m. they were actively pursuing a vehicle on Interstate 90 westbound near the Pennsylvania state line.


Troopers deployed two sets of spike strips and used a maneuver to end the pursuit near mile marker 45.2, according to state police.

Michael Gelencser, 42, of Derby, N.Y., was arrested for fleeing and eluding and other related charges and taken to the Erie County Prison.

Four police vehicles including two New York State Police patrol vehicles and two Town of Evans Police Department patrol vehicles had been following Gelencser, troopers said.
