JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – The City of Jamestown has approved a new Communications Coordinator and Digital Equity Coordinator for the municipality.
The City of Jamestown approved a two year contract with a Chautauqua County native, Stephen Neilans to fill two roles.
“So, same role but there are two roles,” explained Mayor Eddie Sundquist. “One, to be able to expand broadband access across the city using the Affordable Connectivity Program, and two, to help streamline communications across all of our city departments, really like a Public Information Officer for the city.”
The position is being funded through the FCC, allocating $150,000 dollars for the role.
Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist told us that the position saw a lot of applicants.
“So we went through a rigorous interview process,“ stated Mayor Sundquist. “We interviewed many candidates, we got well over 20 applications. We whittled it down from a committee that we formed with various departments, and we ultimately selected Stephen Neilans, who will be working in that role as a contractor for the city.”
Neilans had previously done public relations work for the National Comedy Center and most recently, worked for a PR group in New York City.
