(WNY News Now) – Kim Ecklund, the Republican candidate for Mayor of Jamestown, has declined an invitation to the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters’ Meet the Candidates Debate, citing prior commitments.

Jamestown – Kim Ecklund, the Republican candidate for Mayor of Jamestown, has opted out of participating in the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters’ Meet the Candidates Debate. The event, organized by a non-partisan political organization aimed at fostering informed civic engagement, has historically been a significant platform for candidates to share their visions for the city.

In response, the incumbent Mayor, Eddie Sundquist, issued a statement emphasizing the importance of open dialogue and public forums in a democracy. Sundquist expressed disappointment in Ecklund’s absence from this crucial non-partisan event.

WNY News Now reached out to Councilwoman Ecklund for comment, asking about her reasons for declining the debate and the nature of her other commitments. In response, Ecklund stated, “I have a debate with Mayor Sundquist scheduled already in October along with some others pending so I am not avoiding a debate.  Calendars are full with my full time job in the private sector, current council meetings as well as committee obligations, debates and general door to door to get out the vote and more. I would reply but have not seen his statement.”

WNY News Now forwarded Mayor Sundquist’s statement to her, but as of now, she has not responded.
