Syracuse Man Arrested For Outstanding Warrants

SYRACUSE, NY (WNY News Now) – A Syracuse parolee was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after being located by authorities.

39-year-old Katron Chavis had an active arrest warrant for a previous drug charge and was also on parole for a prior conviction.

As authorities approached Chavis, the suspect immediately attempted to flee. As a result, a struggle ensued between the Detectives and Chavis. An attempt to place Chavis in handcuffs was made, but the suspect refused and continued to resist. As the struggle persisted, authorities noticed a firearm in the suspect’s waistband and that Chavis was actively reaching for it through the struggle.

Authorities applied a use-of-force until the weapon could be secured and the suspect was eventually able to be handcuffed.

The weapon recovered was found to be loaded.

After the arrest, Detectives evaluated Chavis on the scene and he was taken into custody where the authorities met with AMR Personnel for treatment. Chavis refused medical care.

In the end, Chavis was arrested for his warrants and additional charges of Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm for the unlawful firearm possession.
