(WNY News Now) -The New York State Police have seen a surge in applications for the Trooper Entrance Exam, with over 10,000 individuals applying before the October 1st deadline. Notably, the maximum age to apply without military credit has been raised to 34, attracting almost 2,400 applicants in this age group.
NY -The New York State Police announced today that applications for the Trooper Entrance Exam have exceeded 10,000, with the deadline fast approaching on October 1, 2023. The application period began on July 1, 2023, and candidates interested in joining the force are encouraged to apply before the closing date.
Earlier this year, Governor Kathy Hochul approved a significant change in eligibility criteria, allowing individuals up to the age of 34 to apply, an increase from the previous limit of 29. As a result, nearly 2,400 individuals between these ages have taken advantage of this policy change and submitted their applications. Military applicants, however, may apply until the age of 42.
In addition to the age change, the New York State Police revised their tattoo policy in 2022, permitting candidates to have tattoos that can be covered by appropriate attire.
Candidates interested in becoming New York State Troopers can find more information and register for the exam at JoinStatePolice.ny.gov. The exam is conveniently offered at multiple testing centers across New York State, the United States, and various military locations globally. The final day to take the exam is October 15, 2023, and a study guide is available for preparation.
