
(WNY News Now) – The Chautauqua County Legislature, responding to legal requirements, has granted authorization for the Clerk of the Legislature to publish notices regarding upcoming public hearings. These hearings will focus on the 2024 Tentative Budget and the maximum salaries for members of the County Legislature and its Chairman.
Mayville – In accordance with Sections 359 and 271 of the County Law, it is mandatory to conduct public hearings concerning the Tentative Budget. These hearings must also include information regarding the maximum salaries allotted to members of the County Legislature. The County Legislature has taken steps to ensure compliance with these legal mandates.
The public hearings are scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 6:35 P.M. They will take place in the Legislative Chambers, Gerace Office Building, Mayville, New York. During these hearings, copies of the 2024 Tentative Budget will be available for distribution and inspection.
Furthermore, the Clerk of the Legislature will include in the public hearing notice that the salary for each Legislator for the year 2024 shall not exceed $9,000. Additionally, the Chairman of the Legislature will be paid a maximum of $8,000 in addition to their Legislator’s salary. Certain positions within the Legislature will also receive specified additional compensation, not exceeding the amounts outlined in the resolution.
These measures aim to ensure transparency and adherence to legal requirements in the budgetary process for Chautauqua County.
