(WNY News Now) – On Wednesday, October 4th, FEMA and FCC to Conduct Nationwide Emergency Alert Test.

Please take note that on Wednesday, October 4th, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will carry out a nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test.

This comprehensive test will involve the transmission of a “test message” to all televisions, radios, and cell phones across the country. At approximately 2:20 pm Eastern Standard Time, all powered-on cellphones within the vicinity of a cell tower will receive a test alert message. This test is an integral part of FEMA’s broader effort to evaluate and enhance its Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

This nationwide test is crucial to ensure the effectiveness of our emergency alert systems. It is not indicative of an actual emergency. Please be prepared for this test on October 4th, which aims to improve our readiness for potential future emergency situations.
