(WNY News Now) – The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is set to be a prominent venue for the upcoming Fredonia Jazz Festival, a production of the Fredonia Jazz Society, taking place from October 19 to 21.
Fredonia – The annual Fredonia Jazz Festival, organized by the Fredonia Jazz Society, is poised to kick off from October 19 to 21, and the historic 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will be a central hub for the festival’s diverse array of performances.
The Opera House will host six out of the eight scheduled performance events, commencing with the Afternoon Showcase on Saturday, October 21. Starting at noon and running until 5 p.m., this Showcase will feature performances by four distinct bands. For a single $15 ticket, patrons can enjoy all four performances, featuring:
Morgan Street Stompers at 12 p.m., serving up traditional Dixieland Jazz music.
Deanna Witkowski at 1:15 p.m., a pianist and singer presenting “A Tribute to Mary Lou Williams.”
Dave Golando and Sax Time at 2:30 p.m., inspired by the legendary Supersax.
David Jonathan and Inner City Bedlam at 4 p.m., infusing jazz with gospel and soul elements.
The Festival’s grand finale will be headlined by the extraordinary Nicole Zuraitis Quartet at 7 p.m. Zuraitis, described as a jazz singer with a heart full of soul and a voice full of sunshine, is a Grammy-nominated artist who has secured her place among the top performers and prolific songwriters in the jazz world. She has also gained recognition for her work as the premier vocalist for the Birdland Big Band and her appearances at renowned NYC jazz clubs. Her latest album, “How Love Begins,” was co-produced with eight-time Grammy-winner Christian McBride.
Zuraitis will be accompanied on stage by Idan Morim on guitar, Sam Weber on bass, and Dan Pugach on drums. Opening for Zuraitis will be the Nick Weiser Sextet, featuring musicians Kieran Hanlon, John Bacon, Elliot Scozzaro, Mark Filsinger, and Brendan Lanighan. Tickets for this event are available at prices ranging from $20 to $45.
Other performances featured in the Festival include the Nick Finzer Quartet on Thursday, October 19, at 5:30 p.m., followed by another performance at 8 p.m. at Domus Fare restaurant. Tickets for this event are priced at $50. On Friday, October 20, the SUNY Fredonia Alumni Jazz Band and The Fredonia Jazz Orchestra will perform at Rosch Recital Hall at 8 p.m., with free admission.
