Dunkirk – On October 22nd, 2023, at approximately 10:07 PM, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call from the Dunkirk Police Department regarding a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle originating from Ohio. The incident unfolded on Route 5, near Willow Rd, in the Town of Dunkirk.

The suspect vehicle, a 2003 Honda Civic, was observed heading westbound on Route 5, engaging in reckless behavior, and committing multiple lane violations. Deputies took control of the pursuit, which came to a halt when the stolen vehicle became disabled in a vineyard situated at the intersection of Lakeview Rd and Rt 60 in the Town of Pomfret.

With the vehicle rendered inoperable, its occupants fled on foot, initiating a chase. During the pursuit, deputies successfully apprehended the passenger, identified as Jorge Toledo. Meanwhile, the driver, Sammy Carrasquillo Jr, managed to evade capture initially, prompting a multi-agency search in the vicinity.

Law enforcement agencies established a perimeter, and K-9 units, including Chautauqua County Sheriffs K-9 Drake and K-9 Bentley, were deployed to track the suspect. Shortly after, Carrasquillo was located, hiding in tall grass near the disabled vehicle, and was taken into custody without further incident.

Sammy Carrasquillo Jr was transported to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for processing, where he faces charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, and multiple traffic violations. Notably, Toledo had been involved in an earlier Stolen Vehicle complaint that New York State Police Fredonia was investigating. As a result, Toledo was handed over to their custody and subsequently arraigned for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree.
