(WNY News Now) – Jamestown Public Schools is making preparations for possible school delays or closures due to inclement weather, with clear communication channels in place to inform parents and students of any disruptions.
Jamestown – Jamestown Public Schools has released information addressing the possibility of school delays or closures in light of inclement weather conditions.
In the event of school closures or delayed openings, JPS will announce the decisions through local radio and television stations. Furthermore, the district will post updates on its official Facebook Page (@JamestownPublicSchools) and Twitter feed (@JamestownSchool). JPS will also utilize its direct messaging system to communicate with families and staff, using telephone, email, and text messages. To ensure effective communication, parents and students must keep their contact information up-to-date in the district’s system and contact their child’s main office for any necessary updates.
If the district calls a delayed opening, starting times will be affected. When there is a delayed opening,
there will be bus runs.
For a one-hour delay, school will start as follows:
Elementary Schools – 9:20 a.m.
Middle Schools – 9:30 a.m.
JHS – 9:00 a.m.
For a two-hour delay, school will start as follows:
Elementary Schools – 10:20 a.m.
Middle Schools – 10:30 a.m.
JHS – 10:00 a.m.
Once schools are in session, they will usually remain open if adverse weather conditions develop
during the day. Each household should develop an emergency plan within their own family for any
such circumstance. In some cases, after-school and evening activities may be canceled. A decision will
be made by 1 p.m. and local media will be notified, along with posting on JPS Facebook and Twitter
pages, and direct messaging through the district’s communication system.
In the event of after-school and evening activities being canceled, all after school programs will be
prepared to receive children, but will contact parents to encourage early pick up, and will stay with
children until parents can safely pick up their child.
Because late bus runs will not occur, parents will need to pick up their children as soon as reasonably
possible. Persell and Washington middle school students in the after school program will be bussed to
Jefferson Middle School as normal and students will remain at the Jefferson After School Program
until parents can safely pick up their children.
In the case of school closings or an early closing, all activities including: clubs, sports, alternative
education, board meetings and community activities held at a school will be canceled for that evening.
