(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – On December 21, 2023, at approximately 12:54 pm, a routine traffic stop on the West Side of the city escalated into a high-speed pursuit, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old man.

Jamestown police officers from the 1st platoon initiated the stop at W 8th St and Monroe St after discovering the vehicle’s registration was suspended. During the stop, Angel L. Rondon Gonzalez, a passenger, allegedly commandeered the vehicle without consent from the driver or owner. Despite officers attempting to restrain him, Gonzalez sped away, prompting a pursuit through city streets.

The chase concluded at W 8th St and Murray Ave, where Gonzalez abandoned the vehicle, initiating a brief foot pursuit. During the pursuit, officers recovered a loaded semiautomatic pistol and a fanny pack allegedly discarded by Gonzalez, containing a quantity of cocaine and cash.

Gonzalez is currently held pending arraignment at Jamestown City Court, facing charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
