(WNY News Now) – Attorney General Michelle Henry reported on a recent preliminary hearing before District Judge Matthew Seavey in Chester County, detailing new charges against prison escapee Danelo Cavalcante, who gained notoriety for his unique escape method.
During the hearing, evidence was presented regarding Cavalcante’s escape, where he crab-walked up prison walls to freedom. Captured on September 13, 20 miles from the prison, he was found with a backpack containing a stolen .22 caliber rifle, a silver paring knife, and other items, according to court documents.
Previously convicted of murdering Deborah Brandão in 2021, Cavalcante now faces additional charges related to his escape, including burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, and firearm possession. District Judge Seavey ordered all 20 charges to proceed to county court. Cavalcante, held without bail, awaits formal arraignment in Chester County Court, with the date yet to be determined.
