(WNY News Now) – PA Attorney General Michelle Henry, part of the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, issues a warning letter alongside 50 counterparts to Life Corporation (Life Corp), accusing the company of employing artificial intelligence to impersonate President Biden in misleading robocalls.

The calls allegedly originated from Life Corporation (Life Corp) and contained inaccurate information about the upcoming election and messaging to discourage potential voters from casting ballots.

Attorney General Henry is one of 51 Attorneys General on the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, which is warning Life Corp’s owner and executives to immediately cease all unlawful call activity.

The Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force’s investigation revealed that Life Corp allegedly spoofed the calls to make them appear as if they were coming from legitimate New Hampshire political party official phone numbers.

Last month, Attorney General Henry sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on behalf of 26 states, urging the Commission to subject the use of A.I. in robocalls to existing laws.

“Robocalls are much more than mere nuisances. They can cause fear, alarm, and in these instances, misinformation that could sway potential voters,” Attorney General Henry said. “Our democracy is based on free and fair elections, and we cannot tolerate threats to those rights. Using A.I. to make these phone calls can be extremely dangerous as people will be more likely to trust who they hear on the other end of the line.”

If Life Corp does not comply with the warning letter, it could be in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Truth in Caller ID Act, and other state consumer protection laws.

The Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force of 51 bipartisan Attorneys General investigates and takes legal action against those responsible for routing significant volumes of illegal robocall traffic into and across the United States.
