(WNY News Now) Albany, NY – On Saturday Feb. 10, 2024 Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation in honor of Lunar New Year 2024 and delivered a video message to all those celebrating the Year of the Dragon.

“The Lunar New Year is a time of ritual, reflection and celebration as we welcome the Year of the Dragon across New York State,” Governor Hochul said. “I am proud to join the Asian American Pacific Islander communities in this joyous tradition and to recognize their extraordinary history and influence in our State.”

Governor Hochul has taken action to support the AAPI community in New York State, including signing legislation that makes the Lunar New Year a public school holiday. More information on the Governor’s commitment to supporting AAPI New Yorkers can be found here.
