(WNY News Now) – In a courtroom appearance on February 15, 2024, a Wyoming County man entered a guilty plea before Acting Wyoming County Court Judge Melissa Lightcap Cianfrini, admitting to charges of criminally negligent homicide and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Todd Weigert, on February 15, confessed before Acting Wyoming County Court Judge Melissa Lightcap Cianfrini, pleading guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class “E” Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class “D” Felony.

The charges stem from an incident resulting in the unfortunate death of a young woman, attributed to Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid often mixed with other drugs. First Assistant District Attorney Vincent A. Hemming expressed condolences to the victim’s family, emphasizing the broader issue of Fentanyl-related fatalities in the country.

Weigert faces a maximum sentence of up to 4 years for Criminally Negligent Homicide and a 4-year prison term with two years of post-release supervision for Drug Possession. The plea agreement mandates concurrent sentences and includes a waiver of the right to appeal. Judge Cianfrini, holding Weigert without bail, scheduled the sentencing for March 14, 2024, at 11:30 a.m.
