(WNY News Now) – Mayville, NY – A 49-year-old Dunkirk, NY man received an 8-year state prison sentence with 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree. Judge David Foley presided over the sentencing following his conviction.

Yesterday, District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced that Jimmy Watts, aged 49 and hailing from Dunkirk, has been sentenced to a determinate 8-year term in state prison, coupled with 5 years of post-release supervision. This sentencing comes subsequent to his conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, classified as a class C violent felony. The case dates back to March 2023 when the Dunkirk Police Department responded to reports of an individual brandishing and aiming a firearm at patrons on Lakeshore Drive. Mr. Watts pleaded guilty to the weapon charge in September 2023 without seeking a reduction. The District Attorney expressed gratitude to the Dunkirk Police Department for their swift response and dedicated efforts in handling the case. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Molitor prosecuted the case.

  1. I personally have known this person in the past and he’s always been a very bad person and I’m so glad that he’s finally going to be held accountable for his actions!! Good job to the DPD
