(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua, NY, – Memorial Church in Chautauqua, NY, is set to commemorate the comprehensive refurbishment of its historic Moller Pipe Organ with a special presentation featuring Dr. Steven Ball, esteemed organist.

Hurlbut Memorial Church, nestled in the picturesque setting of Chautauqua, New York, is poised to mark a significant milestone in its rich history. On Thursday, May 23rd, at 7:00 PM, the sanctuary of Hurlbut Church at 23 Scott Ave will resonate with the melodious notes of the fully restored Moller Pipe Organ, a cherished fixture since its installation in 1931.

The meticulous restoration of this musical masterpiece has been entrusted to Victor Organ, LLC of Austintown, Ohio. Thanks to the generosity of a local benefactor and dedicated church member, the process commenced in the spring of 2023 and has now reached its triumphant conclusion. Originally crafted for the Park Theater in Meadville, Pennsylvania, in 1924, the organ found its permanent home in Hurlbut Church after being rebuilt in 1962, courtesy of Mr. Edgar T. Welch of Westfield.

To celebrate the organ’s 93 years of unwavering service to the congregation, both past and present, Hurlbut Memorial Church welcomes the acclaimed Dr. Steven Ball to stage a captivating performance. Dr. Ball’s repertoire will traverse a spectrum of religious melodies and show tunes, paying homage to the organ’s versatile legacy. Audiences will also be treated to a timeless cinematic experience as an early Laurel and Hardy silent film is accompanied by the organ, reminiscent of its historical role in enriching silent movie screenings.

Dr. Steven Ball’s illustrious career as an organist spans continents, reflecting his profound passion for music and unwavering dedication to his craft. A former Fulbright scholar in the Netherlands and a product of the esteemed University of Michigan, Dr. Ball honed his skills under the tutelage of Marilyn Mason. His tenure as Organist and Director of Outreach at Atlantic City’s iconic pipe organ attests to his mastery and musical prowess.
