Lakewood, NY — The Chautauqua Lake Association (CLA) removed 7.5 truckloads of logs and woody debris from Chautauqua Lake during the annual spring cleanup. The in-lake effort, which ran from Monday, May 6 to Wednesday, May 15, began earlier than usual due to mild winter conditions and increased spring boat activity.

Despite facing unfavorable weather, CLA crews successfully cleared debris from all developed areas in the lake’s north and south basins. The spring storms had flooded the lake with hazardous debris, posing risks to all types of boaters. The CLA’s efforts aim to protect these boaters by removing dangerous logs and debris.

However, the CLA does not remove debris from undeveloped or protected areas around the lake to preserve natural fish habitats within the Chautauqua Lake ecosystem.
